delicious whole grain breakfast porridge made overnight in a slow-cooker.
Previously, “porridge with potential,” I presented a whole grain porridge recipe that takes perhaps a bit too much time for some of us to prepare in the morning. In the post that followed I offered a solution with pre-cooked grains that significantly reduces the time required in the morning. If you have a slow cooker, that presents another option: overnight slow-cooker porridge!
It’s actually the simplest preparation option of them all – simply place all the porridge ingredients into the slow cooker, mix, and cook overnight on low. Then you will wake to the pleasant aroma of a wholesome breakfast waiting to be served. I particularly enjoy this preparation method in the fall and winter.
This porridge can be prepared with any whole grain; we generally use short or medium grain brown rice, sometimes with a blend of millet, barley, or steel cut oats.
